Taekwondo
By Lawrence Collins

It was nearly 12 years ago when I first went along
to a Taekwondo class. Over the years I've made
lots of friends through attending classes with
first Craig when he was seven and also Zoe who
was six when she started training.
I have had a disability for over 30 years which
has not kept me from doing various activities.
But unbeknown to me Taekwondo would take over
not only my son and daughters lives but also myself
and my wife Barbara.
Unlike Kickboxing Taekwondo you need to have a
full understanding of its origin and terminology;
at first my son found the theory quite hard so
I decided to learn the theory side myself as to
help Craig and Zoe.
If a parent like myself takes an interest in the
theory side of Taekwondo it helps as children
need the help when trying to take all the history
and terminology in because when and after going
for their gradings it needs to be reinforced.
I can't possible do any of the physical side of
Taekwondo but I have recently broke a board with
a Palkup Teriegi (Elbow Strike) which was a feat
in itself.

Craig has been training for nearly twelve years
and Zoe seven years Craig is about to take his
fourth degree black belt and in about eighteen
months time Zoe will be taking her third degree
black belt.
My inspiration has not only come from being able
to help my son and daughter but meeting two special
people I could not help but mention. They are
Mr Graham Lambert and his Wife Mrs Ann Lambert
who without, all our other instructors and students
would not have achieved as high standards at the
club as we have.
So I would like to thank Mr and Mrs Lambert for
all their hard work in teaching and instructing
all the students at the Taekwondo Centres of Excellence.
